Laurel, Md. – December 1, 2025 – WSSC Water is reinforcing its commitment to providing greater financial relief to customers struggling to pay their water/sewer bills by launching two new temporary assistance programs today – the Emergency Customer Relief Fund and the expanded Get Current Temporary Water Bill Assistance Program.

Emergency Customer Relief Fund

In partnership with United Way of the National Capital Area, WSSC Water is providing one-time assistance up to $750 for eligible customers struggling to pay past-due water/sewer bills. Eligible customers are encouraged to act now as the $2.4 million fund is on a first-come, first serve basis. Visit the fund's webpage to check eligibility requirements and apply.

“This generous commitment from WSSC Water will provide much needed relief to Prince George’s and Montgomery County families who are among the more than 600,000 ALICE households in the region who are struggling to pay utility bills and afford basic needs like food, housing and health care,” said Rosie Allen-Herring, President and CEO, United Way of the National Capital Area. “The government shutdown may be over, but ripple effects and ongoing economic uncertainty persist.”

“Together with partners like United Way of the National Capital Area, we are continuing to provide meaningful relief to customers facing financial challenges,” said WSSC Water General Manager and CEO Kishia L. Powell. “These programs are possible thanks to our commissioners, whose commitment to affordability ensures we can continue providing essential services while supporting families in need.”
