Project Purpose

To enhance service reliability and provide a constant supply of safe, clean drinking water by installing a new 24-inch transmission water main along West Cedar Lane.

Project Schedule

Winter 2023 – Winter 2027

Project Status

Construction is 61% complete. 

Water main installation on the first three phases of the project is complete (West Cedar Lane and Rockville Pike). 

The contractor is finishing up Phase 4 (West Cedar) and will be pausing construction and removing equipment during the winter months due to restrictions on above-ground pipe (bypass) installation. Work will resume in March 2026. 

Construction for the last phases 5 & 6 (Old Georgetown/West Cedar intersection and Oakmont Road) will begin in spring 2026 and will be conducted simultaneously.
