Laurel – January 20, 2016: Carla A. Reid, WSSC’s new General Manager and CEO, laid out her strategic vision for the utility at her first Commission meeting this morning. Her remarks provided insight into her personal values, strategic vision, and the leadership philosophy she intends to employ during her tenure at WSSC.

Reid opened her remarks by welcoming new Montgomery County Commissioner Howard Denis, who officially began his four-year term at today’s meeting. She then thanked the Commissioners for placing confidence in her to lead WSSC, before sharing her personal values, which she intends to draw from in her new role.

“I believe in excellence in all we do, both professionally and personally,” stated Reid. “And, I believe in open communication and transparency. I plan to communicate openly to the Commissioners and to all of my WSSC employees. Through open and clear communication, we can assure that we move forward serving our 1.8 million customers in an effective and efficient manner.”

In describing her strategic vision, she stated: “We will behave as if we are competing for every customer we serve. We will treat customers as if we desire their continued business. We will not just handle routine issues, but rather we will provide solutions for the pressing needs of our customers.”

Reid stressed her top priorities include improving customer and stakeholder relationships and ensuring WSSC employees have the motivation and tools necessary to provide great service. She also stressed the importance of “ensuring system reliability through infrastructure replacement and improvements so we are able to sustain our infrastructure and provide safe and reliable service for years to come.”

She concluded her remarks by defining her leadership philosophy, with a focus on three areas: simplify, focus and connect. “The strength of WSSC remains in its ability to develop and sustain strong relationships with internal and external constituencies. Through these relationships, change will take place that ensures we provide excellent customer value.”
