Laurel – May 19, 2011: Christopher Lawson of Upper Marlboro and Melanie Hartwig-Davis of Cheverly were seated today as Commissioners of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. The new Commissioners, appointed to four-year terms, will represent Prince George’s County.

Nominated to four-year terms by Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker L. Baker, III, Hartwig-Davis and Lawson were confirmed by the Prince George’s County Council on Tuesday.

Lawson is president and principal broker of Bowie-based Insuraty Inc., an employee benefits firm that offers health and life insurance as well as retirement and flexible spending plans to employers. Before becoming a business owner, Lawson was Regional Manager for Cigna Healthcare, Mid Atlantic. He was recognized as the Prince George’s County Boys and Girls Club Man of the Year in 2003.

Lawson is a former member of the Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the National Association of African American Insurance Agents, the Society for Human Resource Management and the National Association of Health Underwriters. He also worked for American Express Corporate Services in a sales capacity. Lawson graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Saint Augustine’s College.
