Laurel, Maryland – Septebmer 26, 2007: The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) formally welcomed Commissioner Norman E. Pruitt from Montgomery County during its monthly meeting. Pruitt was appointed by Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett earlier this month and was confirmed by the Montgomery County Council on September 17th.
“I look forward to working with my fellow Commissioners and supporting the work of WSSC employees to deliver safe and reliable water, to protect the environment, and to be financially responsible to our stakeholders,” Pruitt said.
Pruitt brings to the Commission a wealth of experience on matters concerning equal opportunity and compliance. Since November of 2004, Pruitt has served as the Program Compliance Review Leader and Equal Opportunity Specialist at the US Department of Agriculture’s Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service in Washington, DC. In this role, Pruitt organizes and exercises leadership over, and provides technical guidance to, civil rights on-site compliance reviews, audits and investigations of Land Grant Universities and other institutions in the U.S. and U.S. Territories that are receiving federal financial assistance.
From 1999 to 2004, Pruitt served in a variety of capacities that provided human resources and civil rights leadership for the University of Maryland-College Park. Among his various roles, he was the Director of Human Resources Management for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, where he managed Human Resources and Civil Rights and Equity programs for 1,100 faculty and staff located at the University of Maryland-College Park, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore campuses, regional research education centers and 24 county/city offices.
Pruitt received a Bachelors of Science in Journalism from the University of Maryland College Park, in addition to a Master of Science in Agriculture and Extension Education and a Master of Business Administration.
In announcing his selection, County Executive Leggett said, “Norman Pruitt brings a broad base of professional experience to the table and has sound knowledge of the Montgomery County community he will represent.” Pruitt replaces Stanley J. Botts.
