Once in a while, when we can't get a reading from your inside water meter, we'll ask for your help. Here's how to be a meter reader.


If you received an estimated bill and have an outside meter, do not attempt to read this meter.  Instead, please call our Customer Service at 301-206-4001 and we will be happy to schedule another meter reading. Learn more about Outside Meters


Customers with Inside Meters

Sometimes a WSSC Water meter reader cannot get a water usage reading. When that's the case, we'll ask you to submit a meter reading yourself.

There are several ways to submit your meter reading:

Receive an estimated bill?
  • The easiest way is to submit meter readings online through the MyWSSCWater portal. Just login to enter the meter reading directly into the website.
  • Use the voice response system: You can submit your meter reading over the phone by using our automated Interactive Voice Response System, which is available 24/7. Dial 301-206-4001 or toll-free at 1-800-634-8400. Be sure to have your WSSC Water account number handy. Need your account number? Use our account lookup tool.
  • Email: Send a picture of the meter reading to customerservice@wsscwater.com. Be sure to include the account number and the service address in the subject line or body of the email.
  • Meter Reading Request Card: If you received a meter reading request card, fill in the meter reading by hand and return the card promptly to WSSC Water.
  • Call Customer Service: Dial 301-206-4001 (toll-free 1-800-634-8400) to speak to a customer service advisor.

Customers with Outside Meters

The outside meters are normally located in the front yard or the common area by the curb. However, they can also be in a driveway, sidewalk, or street.

Some outside meters share a meter pit and may be located in front of a neighbor’s home or, in some cases, on another street.

If you have an outside meter, please contact WSSC Water at 301-206-4001 to request a check reading or witness a reading. A check reading will not require anyone to be at home. However, if a customer wants to witness their meter reading, they can call our Customer Service Advisors to set an appointment at 301-206-4001.
