All Applicants Must
- Complete a Homeowner Information and Affidavit form. The homeowner must affirm ownership and occupancy of the property and that the work is not being performed for the sale or rent of the home. The homeowner must also affirm that he or she is performing the work
exclusively.
- Obtain the current WSSC Plumbing & Fuel Gas Code. This code contains administrative provisions and amendments and may be purchased at the WSSC Permits counter or downloaded
free online at:https://www.wsscwater.com/codebooks
- Obtain the WSSC adopted International Plumbing Code online at www.iccsafe.org.
- Bring to the WSSC Permits Services counter the completed Homeowner Information and Affidavit form and both code books. A WSSC representative will notarize the Affidavit form free of
charge. (An examination will not be scheduled unless these requirements are met.)
- The Homeowner exam will be given by the WSSC Regulatory Services office. The exam will be given the third Tuesday of every month and start at 9:00 a.m.
- Pass a written exam. The exam will be tailored to match the scope of proposed work and administered by the WSSC Regulatory Services office. The exam will be graded the same day.
- On the day of the exam:
- Submit completed plumbing drawings [schematic (riser) diagrams and floor plan(s)] to the WSSC Regulatory Services office.
- Submit the completed homeowner permit application and,
- Pay for the permit at the WSSC Permit Services counter.
Work Not Allowed
Below-grade piping deeper than 4 feet
- Connection to a WSSC water or sewer service connection
- Installation and testing of testable backflow devices
- Gas fitting installations
- Work on public property
