Laurel, Md. – October 19, 2022 – Today, WSSC Water Commissioners welcomed Lynnette (Lynne) D. Espy-Williams as the newest member of the Board of Commissioners. A Prince George’s County resident, Espy-Williams - Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at the law firm Cozen O’Connor - was appointed to serve as Commissioner by County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and unanimously approved by the Prince George’s County Council September 27.

Espy-Williams's arrival is timely as the nation prepares to highlight the importance of equity when investing in water infrastructure through Imagine a Day Without Water on October 20.

“I welcome the opportunity to use my legal background and commitment to diversity to ensure our water infrastructure investments are fiscally sound and advance our shared goals around racial equity and social justice,” said Espy-Williams. “I thank County Executive Alsobrooks and members of the County Council for entrusting me to serve this vital agency and our customers.”

A Member of the law firm Cozen O’Connor, Ms. Espy-Williams brings experience in commercial litigation and is widely recognized in the industry. She has led many complex commercial litigation matters and routinely speaks on industry issues.

Beyond her work with Cozen O’Connor, Espy-Williams has used her legal background and leadership skills for the betterment of the community and spends a significant amount of time participating in various pro bono activities.

A graduate of Spelman College, she earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland’s Francis King Carey School of Law. You can find her complete bio here.

Espy-Williams becomes the second of three Commissioners representing Prince George’s County. The county is in the process of selecting its third Commissioner to fill the last vacancy. Six Commissioners, three from each county, govern WSSC Water. They are appointed to four-year terms by their respective county executives and confirmed by their county councils.
