Laurel, Md. – March 10, 2022 – WSSC Water Commissioners are pleased to announce the selection of Jon T. Rymer as WSSC Water’s second Inspector General and officially welcome him to WSSC Water.

“Mr. Rymer brings a history of tremendous leadership and operating audits and investigations in a thorough manner,” said Commission Chair Keith E. Bell, speaking on behalf of the WSSC Water Commissioners. “His support of employee involvement and diversity initiatives will be an asset to the Office of Inspector General and the public that the Office and WSSC Water serve. With his strong background, I am confident that Mr. Rymer will not only continue but also advance the systems put in place by WSSC Water’s first Inspector General, Art Elkins.”

Rymer brings almost a decade of experience as an inspector general in the Federal government, more than seven years as a director at a Big Four accounting firm, and over 15 years in the banking industry. He has been a U.S. Senate-confirmed and presidentially appointed Inspector General for both the Obama and Bush administrations.

Rymer was the Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Defense, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and the Interim Inspector General for the Securities and Exchange Commission. He also has extensive experience and expertise in leading internal auditing engagements in Big 4 accounting firms and banks.

“I am very pleased to have been appointed by the WSSC Water Commissioners as the next Inspector General,” said Rymer. “I look forward to starting in the position soon and continuing the important work of the Office of Inspector General.”

WSSC Water’s OIG was enacted under Chapter 130, Laws of Maryland 2018 (Maryland General Assembly, House Bill 419). The inspector general, which operates independently from WSSC Water management and reports directly to the WSSC Water Board of Commissioners, is responsible for conducting, supervising and coordinating audits, investigations and reviews of the utility’s operations.

Rymer’s first day at WSSC Water will be April 4, 2022.
