Laurel, Md. – June 14, 2022 – WSSC Water Commissioners are holding their monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 15. The meeting, which starts at 10 a.m. and is open to the public, will be held in person at WSSC Water headquarters in Laurel and available via livestream from WSSC Water’s website. Customers interested in providing public comments must appear in person. During this month’s meeting, Commissioners will select a new chair and vice chair for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023.

Commissioners are also scheduled to formally adopt WSSC Water’s $1.48 billion FY 2023 operating and capital budget. The budget, which the Montgomery and Prince George’s County Councils unanimously approved in May, allows WSSC Water to protect public health by upgrading aging infrastructure across both counties to ensure safe, clean drinking water continues to flow to homes and businesses. The FY 2023 budget includes $3.5 million - a $200,000 increase from the FY 2022 budget - to enhance financial assistance programs.

The budget is based on a 6.5 percent average rate increase. A typical customer with a family of three, using 55 gallons of water per person per day, would see a quarterly increase of $15.68 in their bill. The rate increase conforms with limits both Montgomery and Prince George’s county councils set when they approved WSSC Water’s Spending Affordability Guidelines.

The FY 2023 budget and new rates begin on July 1, 2022. Revenue generated by the new rates will help repair and replace aging infrastructure – creating jobs and ensuring customers continue to receive unparalleled water quality.

As part of WSSC Water’s commitment to public engagement and transparency, the live broadcast of this meeting allows viewers to observe agency business, including the review of contracts and policies and a monthly synopsis of WSSC Water’s operations. The complete agenda is on WSSC Water’s website.

WSSC Water is the proud provider of safe, seamless and satisfying water services, making the essential possible every day for our neighbors in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. We work to deliver our best because it’s what our customers expect and deserve.
