Laurel, Md. – June 15, 2022 – Fausto Bayonet was elected WSSC Water Commission Chair at today’s monthly Commission meeting. Bayonet, who has represented Montgomery County since June 2015, was unanimously elected.

Bayonet will be serving as Chair for the second time in his seven years as a Commissioner. An architect who has worked in the architectural and engineering fields for more than three decades, Bayonet has played a role in designing numerous commercial, hospitality and government projects throughout the Washington Metropolitan area.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Bayonet earned his bachelor’s degree in Architecture from that country’s Eastern Central University. He furthered his architectural studies at the University of Maryland when he came to the Washington area in 1971.

“I am extremely honored to serve as chair of an organization dedicated to protecting public health and safeguarding our environment,” said Bayonet. “I appreciate the confidence and support of County Executive Marc Elrich and my fellow commissioners and I look forward to working closely with our dedicated employees to fulfill our clean-water mission.”

Commissioners also unanimously voted Regina Speed-Bost as Vice Chair. She brings 30 years of experience in energy law with vast knowledge of utilities and companies that engage in regulated activities in the U.S. She has represented natural gas and local distribution companies and electric utilities on various matters related to energy administrative and regulatory law. Speed-Bost has served on the WSSC Water Board of Commissioners since March 2022.

Six commissioners govern WSSC Water, which has an annual $1.5 billion operating and capital budget. Three commissioners are Montgomery County residents and three are Prince George’s County residents. Commissioners are appointed by their respective county executives to four-year terms and confirmed by their county councils.
