Laurel, Md. – October 7, 2026 – WSSC Water has fully restored power inside the Potomac Water Filtration Plant (WFP). The plant has returned to normal operating conditions.

The plant continues producing high-quality drinking water to meet the needs of residents and businesses throughout Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. Drinking water remains safe and there are no restrictions on water use.

“We are extremely grateful to the WSSC Water crews, contractors and Pepco partners for their tireless work to restore the plant’s electrical systems,” said WSSC Water General Manager and CEO Kishia L. Powell. “Fully restoring power is an important milestone; however, our work continues as we make necessary investments to further strengthen the resilience of this critical facility.”

WSSC Water’s Potomac WFP experienced an interruption in electrical power on Tuesday, September 29 inside the plant. Crews first worked to put emergency power in place to resume treatment capabilities as efforts continued to fully restore power to the facility.

Because of the heroic work of Potomac staff, continuous management of the water distribution system and the tremendous water conservation efforts of customers, WSSC Water was able to maintain service to all customers throughout the event.
