On February 18, 2026, the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission adopted Resolution 2026-2421 to offer a $50 bill credit to 2026 Lead and Copper Rule sampling participants.
EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) requires water utilities to collect samples from customer homes and test for lead and copper. WSSC Water collects 50 samples every three years. In 2020, customers were offered a $10 bill credit for successfully collecting and returning their samples. In 2023, customers were offered an increased $20 bill credit. Despite this incentive, it was difficult to get the required minimum number of 50 volunteers. For the 2026 monitoring period, WSSC Water is increasing the incentive to $50 per completed sample.
THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THE REGULATION IS APRIL 1, 2026
