Hearings Will Detail Projects Included in First Year of Proposed Six-Year Program

Laurel, Md. – August 31, 2026 – WSSC Water is hosting two in-person public hearings this week to provide customers and interested stakeholders an opportunity to learn about and comment on the proposed six-year (Fiscal Years 2028-2033) Capital Improvements Program (CIP), highlighting Fiscal Year 2028.

WSSC Water’s proposed six-year CIP of $4.7 billion focuses on upgrading and replacing aging critical infrastructure to enable the continued delivery of clean, safe and reliable drinking water and wastewater services to 1.9 million customers in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.

The hearings will provide an overview of the six-year plan and highlight $742.8 million in projects included in the first year (FY 2028) of the program. The FY 2028 budget is $35.7 million less than FY 2027. Projects include:

Water Distribution Program: $151.5 million
Wastewater Collection Program: $128.5 million
Water Resource Recovery Facilities: $64.4 million
Smart Water Meter Infrastructure: $53.2 million
Support Center and Anacostia Depot Upgrades: $40.9 million
Lead Reduction: $31.3 million
Water Supply, Treatment and Storage Facility Rehabilitation Program: $21.4 million
Master and Facilities Planning and Infrastructure Investments: $17.5 million
Comprehensive PFAS Management Strategy: $6.1 million
