Berger Scholarship Criteria

Award Criteria for the 2018-2019 Academic Year 

The WSSC Scholarship Fund was established to provide college tuition assistance to children of permanent WSSC employees and retirees who participate in the Fund. The Fund receives support principally from the voluntary contributions of WSSC employees and retirees. The exact number of awards and award amounts will be determined during the scholarship evaluation process by the Scholarship Fund Board.

Eligibility

 

Children of permanent WSSC employees and retirees who are enrolled or accepted for admission as full-time students in an undergraduate program which will lead to an associate’s or bachelor’s degree or certificate of graduation or equivalent from a vocational educational institution.  

The employee/retiree must be currently enrolled in the Fund and have contributed or pledged a minimum biweekly contribution of $5.00 by April 15, 2018. The employee/retiree must also be the natural or adoptive parent or legal guardian of the child.

Applications for scholarships must be submitted to the Board by April 30, 2018, for the 2018-2019 academic year beginning in the fall of 2018. Applications are available now from any Scholarship Board member. The application is also available on the WSSC’s website.

Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis with payments made to the school per semester. No student may receive a scholarship for more than five consecutive or non-consecutive years. Scholarship recipients must remain in good standing at their educational institution to continue to be eligible.

Scholarship Award Criteria

Scholarship monies awarded will be based on merit based on the following:

  • Academic Achievement - Heavily weighted towards Grade Point Averages, and SAT scores (College Freshmen Only).
  • Community Service
  • Extracurricular Activities
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Essay
