Find out how to get your water turned back on.

Laurel, Md. – March 31, 2023 – WSSC Water today released its 2022 Water Quality Report, which provides Prince George’s and Montgomery County customers with important information about the source of their drinking water, how it is filtered and purified, and detailed test results. The report also features the women and men who work around the clock to ensure exceptional water quality – from source to tap. Thanks to their efforts, WSSC Water has continued a 105-year-history of zero drinking water quality violations.

“WSSC Water is comprised of dedicated professionals, and I am proud that our employees are fully committed to delivering on our clean-water mission,” said WSSC Water Commission Chair Fausto R. Bayonet. “I have seen our team’s incredible work ethic first-hand, and it is no surprise our flawless track record remains intact.”

“Our mission is to protect public health and safety by supplying safe, clean and reliable water to our 1.9 million customers,” said General Manager and CEO Kishia L. Powell. “The proof behind our passion for clean water is detailed in this report. Thanks to hard-working and dedicated members of Team H2O, I am confident our 105-year track record of water quality excellence will continue.”

This year’s report includes information about WSSC Water’s proactive testing for Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) compounds. PFAS, often called forever chemicals, are a large group of manmade compounds used since the 1940s in common household and commercial products. Having unique chemical properties, PFAS are often used to keep food from sticking to cookware and make clothes, carpets and furniture resistant to water and stains. PFAS are slow to break down, and using products with PFAS puts these chemicals into the environment, where, over time, they may end up in drinking water supplies. Water quality is WSSC Water’s top priority. Its Silver Spring laboratory performs more than 500,000 water quality tests each year. The report details important water quality topics, including:

  • Where your water comes from and watershed protection;
  • What’s in your water and what’s not;
  • The Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR) program;
  • Detailed water quality data, including an explanation of the filtration process; and
  • What you can do to help protect source water.
