Commissioners Scheduled to Vote on $8.5 Million Contract to Help Supply and Distribute Natural Gas to and from Piscataway Bioenergy Plant
Laurel, Md. – May 18, 2021 – WSSC Water Commissioners are holding their monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, beginning at 10 a.m. The virtual meeting is open to the public via livestream from WSSC Water’s website.
This month, Commissioners are scheduled to approve an 18-year contract with Washington Gas Light (WGL) valued at approximately $8.5 million. The contract includes the construction and installation of new infrastructure to supply natural gas to WSSC Water’s Piscataway Bioenergy facility. In addition, the infrastructure will convey natural gas generated from biosolids away from the plant to be sold and used by external natural gas customers.
The Piscataway Bioenergy Project, located at the Piscataway Water Resource Recovery Facility in Accokeek, Prince George’s County, will turn poop to power by transforming sewage into renewable energy. The $271 million project is under construction and estimated to be complete in fall 2024.
The monthly meeting includes a call-in option to ensure interested stakeholders can provide input. The public comment period starts shortly after 10 a.m.
