WSSC Water Continues to Provide Safe, Seamless and Satisfying Services
During Unprecedented Public Health Crisis

Laurel, Md. – April 1, 2021– WSSC Water today released its 2020 Water Quality Report, which provides customers with important information about the source of their drinking water, how it is purified, as well as detailed water quality data. The report highlights WSSC Water’s 102-year history of producing and delivering water without a single drinking water quality violation.

“In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to safe, clean and reliable water is more crucial than ever,” said WSSC Water General Manager and CEO Carla A. Reid. “I am pleased that this report details our commitment to keeping clean water flowing to our customers without pause during these unprecedented times.”

To guarantee water quality, WSSC Water consistently performs more than 500,000 water quality tests at its water filtration plants and at 88 locations in communities throughout Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. WSSC Water treats surface water from the Patuxent and Potomac rivers and their Patuxent and Potomac Water Filtration Plants provide an average of 164 million gallons of safe drinking water each day.

The report details important water quality topics, including: 

  • Source water protection efforts;
  • Proactive testing for the presence of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS);
  • Information on how home/building plumbing components can be the source of lead in water;
  • Steps residents can take to reduce salt runoff into waterways; and
  • Affordability of tap water compared to bottled water.

Also included in the report is information of payment plans and financial assistance programs, such as the Water Fund, to help make water/sewer bills more affordable.
