Stewardship Projects & Recreational Activities

Environmental Stewardship is one of WSSC’s strategic priorities and it is our belief that through an understanding of a natural area people will take strides to protect that area. This is why we promote safe and responsible recreation on over 6,000 acres of WSSC owned property along the Patuxent River.  Learn more about the programs offered through the tabs below.

Watershed Fair and Family Camp Fire

Each fall WSSC sponsors a Watershed Fair and Family Camp Fire to encourage customers and watershed users to learn more about the amazing recreation options available on WSSC’s Watershed properties. During the event community members are encouraged to interact with local conservation organizations and government agencies who work to protect the land around WSSC’s two reservoirs.  The day ends with entertainment and a campfire.  Visit the Events Calendar to see when the next campfire is scheduled and to register.

Family Fishing Day

Anglers of all levels are welcome to participate in WSSC’s annual Family Fishing Day that takes place on a Saturday in May.  Learn how to fish for the first time with help from our experts, or bring your fishing experience and enjoy a day on the reservoir. This event is catch and release and focuses on the joys of fishing and watershed recreation.  Aside from fishing, attendees will be able to visit education stations, practice their casting skills, and learn more about the WSSC watershed property. Limited fishing rods and bait will be available on site. Note that any angler over the age of 16 must have a State of Maryland Fishing License, which must be purchased in advance.
