WSSC Water Hosts Virtual Public Hearings on Proposed Fiscal Year 2022 Budget

$1.5 Billion Budget Invests in Clean-Water Projects to Protect Public Health and Increases Funding to Assist Financially Struggling Customers

| News Release

Public Invited to Tune in and Provide Comments

Laurel, Md. – January 29, 2021 – WSSC Water will host two virtual public hearings next week for interested customers and stakeholders to provide feedback on its Preliminary Proposed Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) Capital and Operating budget. Staff will provide an overview of the $1.553 billion proposed budget (Capital: $700.9 million, Operating: $852.1 million), and then receive public comments. Interested members of the public can visit to find complete budget details.

Investing in water infrastructure helps protect public health while creating jobs and fostering economic growth throughout Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. The preliminary proposed budget is funded with a proposed 5.9 percent average rate increase, which complies with the Spending Affordability Guidelines set by Montgomery and Prince George’s County Councils. A typical customer -- a family of three using 55 gallons of water per person, per day -- would see a quarterly increase of $11.83 in their bill.

Because of the pandemic’s economic impact, WSSC Water is including $3.3 million in the proposed FY22 budget - a $100,000 increase from the current fiscal year budget - to help more customers struggling to pay their water and sewer bills.
