Public Invited to Livestream Meeting and Participate via Call-In Number

Laurel, Md. – August 17, 2020 – WSSC Water Commissioners are scheduled to hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 19, beginning at 10 a.m. The virtual meeting is open to the public via livestream from WSSC Water’s website. Interested stakeholders also have a call-in option to provide input during the meeting.

Included in this month’s agenda is a briefing on expanding WSSC Water’s affordability programs. WSSC Water is committed to making water and sewer bills more affordable and the briefing will include recommendations to help more financially struggling customers – especially in the wake of COVID-19. Because of the pandemic’s economic impact, WSSC Water included an additional $324,000 from the current budget to help more customers struggling to pay their water and sewer bills – for a total of $3.2 million in their current Fiscal Year 2021 budget. Wednesday’s meeting also includes an update on WSSC Water’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project. WSSC Water withdrew a solicitation for the AMI project in mid-March effectively postponing the project due to resource constraints related to COVID-19. The innovative technology allows water meters to communicate usage information wirelessly using radio or cellular frequencies. AMI will help customers by providing near real-time water usage information. Through a user-friendly portal, customers will have more control over their water use – thereby reducing bills and saving money.
