Laurel, Md. – December 17, 2019 – WSSC Water Commissioners are scheduled to review and vote on transmitting the Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 Preliminary Proposed Budget to county governments at their monthly meeting on Wednesday, December 18, at WSSC Water headquarters in Laurel. The meeting, which starts at 10 a.m., is open to the public and available via livestream directly on WSSC Water’s website.
WSSC Water’s FY 2021 Preliminary Proposed Budget of nearly $1.5 billion is funded with a proposed seven percent rate increase. A typical customer with a family of three, using 55 gallons of water per person, per day, would see a quarterly increase of $15.27 in their bill. The proposed rate increase follows the limits set by both Montgomery and Prince George’s County Councils when they approved WSSC Water’s Spending Affordability Guidelines. The complete preliminary proposed budget will be posted on WSSC Water’s website for public review in advance of the public hearings, which are scheduled for January 27, in Montgomery County and February 4, in Prince George’s County. Complete details on the budget and the locations of the public hearings can be found here.
WSSC Water Commissioners will also receive a detailed briefing on the utility’s Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment Adaptation and Mitigation Plan. WSSC Water is in the midst of a multi-year, comprehensive study to develop strategies to better protect assets and employ innovative solutions to alleviate the effects of climate change.
As part of WSSC Water’s commitment to public engagement and transparency, the live broadcast allows viewers to observe agency business, including the review of contracts, policies and a monthly synopsis of WSSC Water’s operations. The complete agenda, including links to each presentation, can be found on WSSC Water’s website.
