Local Students to Participate in Hands-On Engineering Activities

Laurel, Md. – February 21, 2018 – Sparking the interest of future engineers, WSSC is working to build its talent pipeline by promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and careers during National Engineers Week (February 18-24) with several hands-on programs geared to local Maryland students.

The three-part series kicked off on Tuesday with WSSC’s first-ever Engineering & Internship Fair for college students interested in exploring careers in the water industry. On Thursday, WSSC will host its second annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day for approximately 40 7th to 9th-grade girls from across Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. WSSC involvement in National Engineers Week culminates with the popular Sewer Science program on Friday, February 23 for 20 students from Fairmount Heights High School. Through hands-on experiments, students learn about engineering and water treatment at WSSC’s Parkway Wastewater Treatment Plant in Laurel.
