FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAUREL, Md. – July 27, 2017: WSSC commissioners will convene their second special meeting on Thursday, August 3, at WSSC’s Laurel headquarters starting at 10 a.m. to continue the process of establishing a new rate structure. Thursday’s meeting will focus on a thorough examination of different policies under consideration in the development of the new rate structure, including affordability, water conservation, cost of providing water and sewer services, and the impact a new rate structure can have on lower and fixed-income customers.

This is the second in a series of special meetings to examine all aspects of new rate structures and receive public feedback with the goal of sending recommendations to Montgomery and Prince George’s County officials in September. The new rate structure is scheduled to be adopted in June 2018. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be livestreamed on WSSC’s website. Customers will have the opportunity to provide comments.

WSSC’s current rate structure was adopted 25 years ago and good management practice dictates periodic review of rate structure alternatives.
