FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAUREL, Md. – August 1, 2017: WSSC commissioners will convene their second special meeting on Thursday, August 3, at WSSC’s Laurel headquarters, starting at
10 a.m., to continue WSSC’s process of establishing a new rate structure. During Thursday’s meeting, WSSC commissioners will receive information from local and nationally-renowned rate structure experts, including a Maryland water conservation expert, on various policies under consideration in the development of the new structure. Policies to be presented and discussed include affordability, water conservation, cost of providing water and sewer services, and the impact a new rate structure can have on lower and fixed-income customers. Following the expert testimony, WSSC customers and members of the public will have an opportunity to provide comments. The Commission also will conduct a separate meeting at 3 p.m. in closed session to discuss pending personnel and governance matters.

WSSC’s current rate structure was adopted 25 years ago and good management practice dictates periodic review of rate structure alternatives.

The public rate structure meeting will be livestreamed on WSSC’s website. Those unable to attend the meeting can watch via livestream and provide comments to: BudgetGroup@wsscwater.com. The deadline for submitting comments is August 31, 2017. Information on the rate study can be found here: www.wsscwater.com/ratestudy.
