FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Laurel – February 26, 2016 – WSSC Small, Local and Minority Business Enterprise (SLMBE) Director Towanda R. Livingston received the Black History Month “Black History Hero” award from the Maryland Washington Minority Companies Association (MWMCA). The organization describes Livingston as “someone who has made significant contributions and is an outstanding member of our community.”
Livingston accepted the award Thursday night at MWMCA’s 2016 Black History Month Celebration, held at Rams Head Center Stage at Maryland Live! Casino in Hanover. A total of 14 Black History Heroes were honored at the event.
“It is with deep gratitude that I accept this award. I am grateful to MWMCA for acknowledging WSSC’s supplier diversity efforts” said Livingston. “And I thank WSSC which has encouraged me and given me the opportunity to serve the minority business community.”
WSSC’s SLMBE program is designed to ensure small, local and minority firms are afforded the opportunity to participate in contracting opportunities in the areas of architecture and engineering, construction, procurement and professional services
“Under Towanda’s leadership WSSC has developed a premiere program to help woman and minority-owned businesses,” says WSSC General Manager/CEO Carla A. Reid. “She brings enthusiasm and dedication that is unsurpassed by anyone.”
Since 2002, MWMCA has been advocating for minority and women construction trade contractors because so much work was being completed without the use of said firms.
