FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Laurel – August 1, 2016: WSSC is making good progress repairing two 12-inch water main breaks on University Boulevard in Silver Spring, however, all lanes eastbound and westbound between Piney Branch Road and Carroll Avenue remain closed.

The break at 831 University Boulevard was repaired and water was restored to the 15 affected customers about 3:30 a.m. The hole is being filled in and then road restoration will begin.

The second break, which occurred about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at 807 University Boulevard, is undergoing repairs at this hour. Water at this site was shut off about 3:30 a.m. There are about 30 customers without water, including residents of the University Manor Apartments.

The 12-inch water main that runs in this area of University Boulevard is 89 years old. The location of the second break is very close to the location of a break on the same line that was repaired in April.

WSSC appreciates the patience of everyone affected by the water main breaks and subsequent repairs.
