Repairs Continue on Water Main

Laurel – August 1, 2016: Road restoration along University Boulevard in Silver Spring, between Piney Branch Road and Carroll Avenue is progressing quicker than expected following two water main breaks on Sunday.
Two eastbound lanes of University Boulevard between Piney Branch Road and Carroll Avenue are expected to open about 4:30 p.m. today. The rest of the lanes, including all westbound lanes will remain closed for repairs. An update on the Tuesday morning rush hour will be provided late tonight.
Approximately 30 feet of pipe is being replaced at the site of the 12-inch water main break at 807 University Boulevard. That pipe broke Sunday afternoon and water was shut off about 3:30 a.m. today. There are about 34 customers without water, including residents of the University Manor Apartments. Water service is expected to be restored by 6:00 p.m.
The other 12-inch main that broke Sunday morning at 831 University Boulevard was repaired overnight and water service was restored to the 15 affected customers at 3:30 a.m. today.
The water main that runs in this area of University Boulevard is 89 years old.
