LAUREL, MD – December 7, 2015: WSSC’s Patuxent Water Filtration Plant (WFP) received the prestigious President’s Award from the Partnership for Safe Water. The award recognizes utilities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to delivering superior quality drinking water to customers.

The partnership is a program designed to help utilities assess plant performance and improve operations, ensuring drinking water that surpasses regulatory requirements through treatment plant and distribution system optimization.

“As the only water plant in the state to receive this prestigious award for 2015, this places Patuxent into an elite category,” said James Langley, WSSC Chief of Plant Operations. “I am very proud of this accomplishment, which speaks directly to our commitment to provide safe and reliable water and return clean water to our environment.”

Dinesh Bahadursingh, Plant Engineering Supervisor for Patuxent WFP accepted the award at the Water System Optimization Conference in Hershey, Pa., in October. WSSC was also recognized as a 20-year subscriber in the Partnership for Safe Water program.  Utilities that subscribe to the partnership are dedicated to providing high-quality water to customers, even beyond regulatory requirements.

The Partnership for Safe Water is an alliance of six drinking water organizations: American Water Works Association, Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, Association of State Drinking Water Administrators, United States Environmental Protection Agency, National Association of Water Companies and the Water Research Foundation. Its mission is to improve the quality of water delivered to customers by achieving operational excellence in water treatment.

For 100 years, WSSC has proudly served the citizens of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties – providing drinking water that has always met strict Safe Drinking Water Act standards and protecting the environment through vital water resource recovery services. Our vision is to be THE world-class water utility, where excellent products and services are always on tap.
