FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Laurel – April 1, 2015 – For the 96th year in a row, WSSC once again met or went beyond the federal standards for water quality set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The WSSC 2014 Water Quality Report, released today, highlights WSSC’s commitment to their mission of delivering the safest, most reliable water to its customers.
WSSC tests the water more than 500,000 times throughout the year, providing ample time for any adjustments to be made, if needed, to WSSC’s operations or water treatment process to maintain and deliver clean and safe water. The report, which is released once a year, provides the more than 1.8 million residents in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties the assurance that they will receive the highest quality water each time they open their tap.
“WSSC has a primary mission – to provide our customers in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties the safest and most reliable drinking water possible. It is critical to the health and well-being of our community,” said Jerry N. Johnson, General Manager and CEO. “We are extremely proud to say that for 96 straight years, we have delivered on that promise. WSSC has never had a drinking water violation!”
“Meeting and going beyond federal standards year after year is a testament to all WSSC employees,” Johnson adds. “From the teams working at our watersheds to the laboratory technicians, every employee dedicates themselves to meeting the mission of delivering the safest and most reliable water possible.”
In addition to delivering high quality water to our customers, WSSC prides itself on its environmental stewardship. For the third straight year, the Water Quality Report will be delivered in electronic form, cutting the number of printed copies from 450,000 to just 2,500, saving trees and money.
