Laurel – June 22, 2015: The Broad Creek Wastewater Pumping Station in Ft. Washington experienced excessive flows on Saturday during the heavy rainfall which resulted in a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) totaling approximately 370,000 gallons.
The overflow of diluted wastewater started at about 11:07 p.m. on Saturday night and was stopped at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Rainfall at the nearby Piscataway Wastewater Treatment Plant totaled 2.7 inches.
WSSC crews have posted signs in the affected area and notifications have been made to the Maryland Department of the Environment, the Prince George’s County Health Department, and local municipalities.
WSSC is committed to protecting the health of the public and the environment.
