FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Laurel – May 27, 2015 – With the unofficial start of summer and forecast calling for high temperatures in the coming days, WSSC customers will be able to cool off and quench their thirst with the region’s best tasting tap water all summer long.
WSSC’s tap water was recently tapped as the best tasting at this year’s Chesapeake Water Environment Association (CWEA) and Chesapeake American Water Works Association (CSAWWA) joint meeting in Annapolis, Md. While delivering safe and reliable water remains WSSC’s highest priority, we are constantly working to maintain the best taste possible for our customers.
Five of the region’s utilities went head to head in a blind taste test competition judged by a set of selected participants attending the annual meeting. Each water sample was marked only by a number, not by name of the utility, and was evaluated on water appearance, odor, flavor, mouth feel and aftertaste.
“We realize that taste is a subjective thing,” said Jerry N. Johnson, WSSC General Manager and CEO. “But it’s an important quality in the tap water that we deliver every day. And it’s important to realize that along with quality and taste, tap water is still among the best values out there.”
“While we warmly embrace the recognition, this first-place award comes as no surprise to the men and women at our WSSC Water Filtration Plants, who are on the job 24/7 producing only the best water for our customers” said Bobby Trimble, WSSC’s Patuxent Water Filtration Plant Superintendent.
The participating water filtration plants included:
- City of Baltimore – Montebello #1 WFP
- City of Baltimore – Montebello #2 WFP
- City of Baltimore – Ashburton WFP
- City of Rockville
- Carroll County – Freedom District WTP
- Artesian Water Company – Port Deposit TP
- WSSC – Patuxent WFP
