FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Laurel – July 2, 2015: Restoration to the roadway at Georgia Avenue in Wheaton continues after yesterday’s break on a 16-inch water main. North- and southbound traffic currently shares the northbound side of Georgia Avenue between Randolph Road and Arcola Avenue. State Highway Administration (SHA) is now managing the road closure. The goal is to re-open all lanes for today’s evening rush hour.

The water main break was located at 12018 Georgia Avenue, between Shorefield Road and Henderson Avenue. One home was flooded; WSSC Claims and Emergency Services teams are working with homeowners to process claims to replace or repair any damage resulting from the water main break. Water service was restored to all 42 customers late last night after repairs were complete.

WSSC appreciates the patience of our customers and all the commuters affected by the water main break and traffic consequences. The Commission is committed to infrastructure renewal and is currently replacing 55 miles per year of water main.

For 100 years, WSSC has proudly served the citizens of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties – providing drinking water that has always met strict Safe Drinking Water Act standards and protecting the environment through vital water resource recovery services. Our vision is to be THE world-class water utility, where excellent products and services are always on tap.
