Excessive Rainfall Causes Sanitary Sewer Overflows into Broad Creek

Laurel – June 28, 2015: There was a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) at the Broad Creek Wastewater Pumping Station at 10315 Livingston Road in Fort Washington, Md. on Saturday night due to the heavy rainfall. Crews are working to determine the amount of diluted wastewater that overflowed. It started at about 6:21 p.m. and ended at about 8:20 p.m. Signs were posted in the affected areas after the heavy rain on June 20. WSSC crews will update these signs today. An update will be provided once the amount of the overflow has been determined.
Appropriate notifications have been made to the Maryland Department of the Environment, the Prince George’s County Health Department, and local municipalities.
