| News Release

Laurel – April 1, 2014: WSSC has extended to 95 years its streak of meeting or beating all federal standards for water quality. The WSSC 2013 Water Quality Report is out and confirms WSSC’s stellar record of producing safe, clean water. Throughout our 95-year history, WSSC has never had a drinking water violation! The 2013 Water Quality Report is available online at, providing the public with Water Quality data, plus information about your water from the Environmental Protection Agency.

WSSC monitors drinking water quality daily to meet or exceed EPA standards.  Rigorous year-round laboratory tests analyze water for almost 200 substances. Water is purified and treated before it leaves our treatment plants, flowing through 5,500 miles of drinking water pipelines to 1.8 million residents.

“We are proud of our 95-year safe water record, which reflects the dedication and hard work of everyone at WSSC to serve the people of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties,” says General Manager and CEO Jerry Johnson.  “We know that clean, healthy water means healthy families, and sustains the growth of businesses in our communities.”

Water is essential, and so is communication. That’s why WSSC makes information available 24/7 at It’s there when you want it. We’re proud to use electronic delivery of the Water Quality Report for the second year, because it’s better for our environment than printing and mailing more than 430,000 copies. While most customers should be able to receive the Water Quality Report electronically, WSSC will provide a paper copy to those who request one by calling 301-206-8100.

It’s fitting that we release this report in April, as WSSC sponsors many environmental events during Earth Month and beyond. Learn the details here: community-and-environmental-events
