FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Laurel – November 20, 2014: WSSC completed repairs to a broken water main on Silver Hill Road in Suitland earlier this evening, returning affected customers to service.  Crews are backfilling the area excavated to make repairs, and the paving process will begin upon completion of this process.

The 71 year-old, 14-inch water main broke Wednesday evening on Silver Hill Road between Royal Plaza Drive and Brooks Drive in Suitland. WSSC crews worked overnight and throughout the day to put the main back in service and to restore normal traffic patterns.

At this time, the eastbound lanes of Silver Hill Road remain closed while paving contractors work overnight to repair the road. WSSC will provide updates as significant progress is made with the paving process.

WSSC appreciates the patience of our customers and all the commuters affected by the water main break and traffic consequences. The Commission is committed to infrastructure renewal and is currently replacing 55 miles per year of water main.

For 100 years, WSSC has proudly served the citizens of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties – providing drinking water that has always met strict Safe Drinking Water Act standards and protecting the environment through vital water resource recovery services. Our vision is to be THE world-class water utility, where excellent products and services are always on tap.
