FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Laurel – November 21, 2014: The eastbound lanes of Silver Hill Road in Suitland have been re-opened following repairs to a 14” water main break on Wednesday evening. The rupture of the 71 year-old cast iron pipe caused significant damage to the highly trafficked, three lane road near Suitland High School.

Water service returned to businesses around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, but  Silver Hill Road between Royal Plaza Drive and Brooks Drive remained closed while contractors repaved the roadway. The break undermined a significant stretch of Silver Hill Road, requiring additional resources to repave and return the thoroughfare  to normal service.

WSSC appreciates the patience of our customers and all the commuters affected by the water main break and traffic consequences. The Commission is committed to infrastructure renewal and is currently replacing 55 miles per year of water main.

For 100 years, WSSC has proudly served the citizens of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties – providing drinking water that has always met strict Safe Drinking Water Act standards and protecting the environment through vital water resource recovery services. Our vision is to be THE world-class water utility, where excellent products and services are always on tap.
