FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Laurel – July 31, 2014: Rhode Island Avenue will remain closed during the morning rush hour Friday August 1, 2014 due to a water main break at 4806 Rhode Island Avenue (Route One) in Hyattsville, MD. The 12-inch main ruptured around 4:30 this afternoon. WSSC crews are on the scene repairing the 73 year-old pipe.
WSSC estimates that approximately 6-million gallons of water spilled onto Rhode Island Avenue in the three hours it took for WSSC crews to stem the flow.
WSSC hopes to be able to open the road in time for tomorrow afternoon’s rush hour. Updates will be available on Twitter @WSSCWaterNews.
