FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Laurel – August 2, 2014: WSSC has completed repairs to the 12-inch water main on Rhode Island Avenue in Hyattsville and all lanes are open to traffic.

The closure was due to a break in a 73 year-old pipe that occurred on Thursday afternoon in the 4800 block of Rhode Island Avenue. WSSC estimates that approximately 6 million gallons of water was lost as a result of the break.

WSSC appreciates the patience of our customers and all the commuters affected by the water main break and traffic consequences. The Commission is committed to infrastructure renewal and is currently replacing 55 miles per year of water main.

For 100 years, WSSC has proudly served the citizens of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties – providing drinking water that has always met strict Safe Drinking Water Act standards and protecting the environment through vital water resource recovery services. Our vision is to be THE world-class water utility, where excellent products and services are always on tap.
