FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Laurel – August 1, 2014: As part of our infrastructure renewal program, WSSC is replacing an aging water main along Veirs Mill Road in Rockville. The work will require some lane closures over the next few months.

The majority of the lane closures will occur at night during the month of August, but there will be a need for some additional lane closures during the day and at night between September and December.

The first of the lane closures will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 3. All lane closures on Veirs Mill Road will be between Randolph Road and Robindale Drive. When lanes are closed at night they will reopen by 5:00 a.m.

Two electronic signs have been posted on Veirs Mill Road to notify drivers of the upcoming work.

WSSC is replacing a one-mile stretch of a 24-inch water main along Veirs Mill Road as well as numerous valves. The original pipe is 58 years old. The project began in April 2013 and is expected to be finished in December 2014, weather permitting.

These types of projects can cause an inconvenience for residents who live and travel in the construction area. WSSC appreciates the patience of everyone while we work to replace our aging infrastructure. WSSC is currently replacing 55 miles per year of water main. We’re committed to providing safe, clean and reliable water, as we have for the past 96 years.

For 100 years, WSSC has proudly served the citizens of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties – providing drinking water that has always met strict Safe Drinking Water Act standards and protecting the environment through vital water resource recovery services. Our vision is to be THE world-class water utility, where excellent products and services are always on tap.
