Laurel – March 28, 2014: It’s Earth Month! What are you doing to protect the environment and keep our waterways clean? Start tomorrow and partner with WSSC on environmental stewardship projects that improve the earth and help you enjoy and appreciate nature.

WSSC hosts events throughout the year in Prince George’s and Montgomery County, Md. that improve the environment and educate the public on protecting our waterways and green spaces. Our environmental stewardship opportunities are open to students seeking service learning hours as well as neighbors, concerned citizens and organizations who want to help the environment.

  • Saturday, March 29, 9 am – Noon Tree planting at Supplee Recreation Area, 16904 Supplee Lane, Laurel, Md.
  • Sunday, March 30, 9 am – Noon Tree planting at Scott’s Cove Recreation Area, 11000 Harding Road, Laurel, Md.
  • Sunday, March 30, 1 – 4 pm Creating a butterfly garden at WSSC’s Offices, 14501 Sweitzer Lane, Laurel, Md.
  • Saturday, April 5, 9am – Noon Watershed clean-up at various locations
  • Sunday, April 6, 9 am – Noon Helping the ecosystem at Brighton Dam’s Azalea Garden, 2 Brighton Dam, Brookeville, Md.
  • Sunday, April 6, 1 – 3 pm “Do Good Day” with trash pick-up at Triadelphia Recreation Area, 2800 Triadelphia Lake Road, Brookeville, Md.
  • Saturday, April 12, 9 am – Noon Patuxent Cleanup Day at Brown’s Bridge, 2220 Ednor Road Silver Spring, Md.
  • Sunday, April 13, 9 am – Noon Trash pick-up and removing invasive weeds at Triadelphia Recreation Area, 2800 Triadelphia Lake Road, Brookeville, Md.
  • Saturday, April 19, 9 am – Noon Helping the ecosystem by removing invasive weeds at Supplee Recreation Area, 16904 Supplee Lane, Laurel, Md.
  • Saturday, April 26, 9 am – Noon Planting with the Girl Scouts at Scott’s Cove Recreation Area , 11000 Harding Road, Laurel, Md.
  • Saturday, May 3, 9 am – Noon Warbler Day at Pig Tail Recreation Area, 5600 Green Bridge Road, Dayton, Md.
  • Saturday, May 3, 1 – 4 pm Native Plant and Tree Tour at Brown’s Bridge, 2220 Ednor Road, Silver Spring, Md.
  • Saturday, May 17, 9 am – Noon WSSC Family Fishing Derby (catch and release) at Triadelphia Recreation Area, 2800 Triadelphia Lake Road, Brookeville, Md.
