Laurel – November 4, 2013: The Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland, this past Friday, honored WSSC General Manager and CEO, Jerry N. Johnson with its “Outstanding Leadership Award.”

Herman L. Taylor, Jr., a member of the Maryland Black Caucus Foundation Board of Directors nominated Johnson and presented him with the award at the kickoff of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland Weekend in Annapolis.

“Success is never final,” says Taylor. “But, what [Johnson] has tried to do [at WSSC]… has been encouraging. There has been a culture change with a future of inclusion and pushing for opportunities for minority business and increased outreach.”

According to Taylor, nominees were selected based on community involvement and services rendered to the community.

“Diversity is just the way we do business at WSSC,” says Johnson. “I am proud of our record of inclusion and proud of our team. And it is gratifying that people are taking note of our efforts. And yes, there is more work ahead, but we continue to move in the right direction.”
