Networking and “How To” Sessions Highlight an Event Dedicated to Providing Tools and Information to Women-Owned Businesses

Laurel– March 25, 2013:The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission’s (WSSC) Small, Local and Minority Business Enterprise (SLMBE) Office hosts the 5th Annual Women Business Owners Expo on Friday, March 29 at the WSSC headquarters, 14501 Sweitzer Lane, Laurel.

This free event for Women Business Owners will afford them the opportunity to network and also provide tools that will enable them to shape the future of their businesses,” says SLMBE Director Towanda Livingston.

In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Expo will focus on the challenges unique to the experience of women business owners. In addition to the extensive networking opportunities, there will be information about programs to assist women- and minority-owned businesses, including “how to” workshops on subjects such as, “Obtaining Your WBE Certifications,” “The Benefits of Belonging to a Chamber,” and “How to Effectively Market Your Business.” WSSC staff from Procurement, Logistics, Information Technology, Engineering & Construction and other offices will be on hand with information about contracting opportunities with the Commission.

Kathryn Freeland, President and Chief Executive Officer of A-Tek, Inc. will be the keynote speaker and Sharon Pinder, Director of Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawling-Blake’s Office of Minority and Women-Owned Business Development, will serve as emcee.
