FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Laurel – January 23, 2013: The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) will hold the fifth in a series of supplier outreach sessions focused on fostering strong ties with the supplier community at its Laurel headquarters on Friday, January 25, 2013. “How to do Business with WSSC” brings together potential suppliers, the WSSC Procurement Office, and The Small Local Minority Business Enterprise (SLMBE) Office, along with strategic WSSC Business Units to showcase upcoming contracting opportunities at WSSC.

We are very proud of our ongoing efforts to cultivate and strengthen ties with our supplier community,” said Jerry Johnson, WSSC’s CEO and General Manager. “This supplier outreach event provides an opportunity for potential vendors to learn about the wide array of goods and services WSSC requires to deliver water and sanitation services to our customers.”

The outreach event will feature presentations from several major WSSC contracting areas including architectural-engineering and construction services, facilities & maintenance services and supplies, fleet management services and supplies, information technology equipment and software services, and other technical, financial and professional services. Attendees can hear about upcoming contracts, and also market their companies’ abilities directly to WSSC decision makers. This outreach event is intended to promote economic growth, build capacity among WSSC’s local supplier community and provide relationship building opportunities for WSSC and its suppliers.

Minority- and women-owned businesses are especially encouraged to participate. In fiscal year 2012, WSSC awarded $129 million to firms classified as minority owned business enterprises (MBE) and paid 28 percent ($102 million) of its total contracts to MBE firms, exceeding the aspirational MBE goal of 26 percent for contracting payments to minority- and women-owned businesses.
