OFFICE OF COMMUNICATIONS AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Laurel– March 20, 2013: Repairs to the 60-inch water main break that occurred Monday night in Chevy Chase continue. Crews will remove a 20-foot section of the 5-foot diameter pipe and replace it with a new section today. Once repairs to the pipe are complete it will take several days for the work in the area to conclude.
Northbound lane closures on Connecticut Avenue between Dunlop Street and Manor Road continue to allow the crews to work safely. One northbound lane is open. All southbound lanes are open.
WSSC continues to ask customers in Montgomery and Prince George’s County to cut their water consumption and comply with the mandatory water restrictions. The restrictions ensure adequate water reserves for fire protection and medical/hospital services. There are NO water service disruptions associated with this repair. The water is safe to drink!
Until water restrictions are lifted, it is imperative that all business and residential customers:
Use water only as necessary – i.e., shorter showers and turn off faucets after washing hands and while brushing teeth
Limit flushing toilets (do not flush after every use)
Limit using washing machines and dishwashers (wash full loads only)
Stop all outside water use - i.e., no watering lawns, shrubs, flowers; no washing cars
These mandatory water restrictions apply to all WSSC customers, residential and business, in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties.WSSC police will issue citations to violators of the water restrictions. A violation carries a fine of up to $500 fine.
WSSC will notify customers once mandatory restrictions are no longer necessary.
