| News Release

Laurel – June 12, 2012: WSSC Mobile keeps garnering awards, adding to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission’s (WSSC’s) global reputation for innovation. The Computerworld Honors Program has named WSSC’s mobile app among the 10 best in the world in its environmental category. Other honorees in various categories include Procter & Gamble, Fujitsu, Stanford University, Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard.

The award honors “visionary applications of information technology.”

“Being named a Laureate in the Computerworld Honors Program is another major step towards positioning WSSC as a world class organization,” said WSSC General Manager/CEO Jerry N. Johnson. “It also provides global recognition of our innovative work in using technology to better engage with our customers.”

Late last year, WSSC Mobile received two 2011 W3 Silver Awards from the International Academy of the Visual Arts: one in the category of Innovative/Experimental and one for Productivity. The W3 Awards honor outstanding Websites, Web Marketing, Web Video and mobile apps created by some of the best interactive agencies, designers and creators worldwide.

WSSC’s free mobile app lets you:

  • Save time by using your smartphone to pay your water and sewer bill; all it takes is an account number, last name and zip code.
  • Check for service issues in your area.
  • Read the latest WSSC news.
  • Check job postings.
  • Report a broken water main break or other problems directly to our customer service team with just a few taps on the smartphone. You can even send us a picture of the problem.

The app uses the phone’s GPS to transmit the location. No phone call, no waiting on hold. Quicker notification means quicker repair.

WSSC Mobile was developed for iPhone, Android and Blackberry users. It can be downloaded for free at the app stores associated with the respective mobile devices. WSSC Mobile has been downloaded about 3,400 times.

For 100 years, WSSC has proudly served the citizens of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties – providing drinking water that has always met strict Safe Drinking Water Act standards and protecting the environment through vital water resource recovery services.
