Volunteers Needed for Culvert Clean-up

Help remove silt and debris from the culverts at Supplee Lane Recreation Area

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Laurel – September 10, 2012: WSSC is looking for volunteers to help remove silt and debris from culverts along its access road parallel to the Patuxent River at Supplee Lane Recreation Area, 16904 Supplee Lane, Laurel. The cleanup will be on Saturday, September 15, from 9 a.m. to Noon.

WSSC will provide gloves, but volunteers are asked to bring shovels if they have them. Supplee Lane is one of WSSC’s recreation areas on its Rocky Gorge (aka T. Howard Duckett) drinking water reservoir. The purpose of the cleanup is to reduce the amount of sediment or dirt that goes into the reservoir. A second culvert cleanup will be held October 20.
