Social Media Content Guidelines

Anyone posting content directly to WSSC official social media platform sites shall follow these guidelines:  

  1. Relevance. WSSC shall only post content that is relevant to its primary mission of providing safe and reliable water, life’s most precious resource, and returning clean water to our environment, as well as other responsibilities such as, but not limited to inspection of natural gas installations.
  2. Language and Manners. All content that appears on WSSC social media properties shall be “family friendly.” 
  3. No Personal Attack Comments Permitted. Any disagreements between WSSC and outside parties will be discussed in a courteous and professional manner.
  4. Individual Privacy Protection.  No personal information, such as mailing address, email address, phone number, social security number, etc. may be shared. 
  5. Appropriate Topics. No hate speech, political or religious proselytizing, “adult” or sexual content, and self-serving commercial promotion. 

WSSC staff will also attempt to ensure that content posted by others is consistent with content guidelines, including comments, “likes,” shares, “tell-a-friend,” and retweets. At its sole discretion, WSSC may remove inappropriate comments and block users who repeatedly post inappropriate comments to WSSC social media properties.

WSSC staff is responsible for the accuracy of material posted to the site.  WSSC's Communications and Community Relations Office is responsible for monitoring content on all agency pages or sites to ensure a consistent message is being conveyed and ensure adherence to the Social Media Policy.  

WSSC's Communications and Community Relations Office will coordinate review of any legal issues with WSSC's General Counsel's Office.
