Operations Unit

The Operations Division consists of uniformed police officers providing 24 hour a day security and law enforcement services to employees, customers, and visitors, as well as its multi-billion dollar investment in physical assets.

Officers assigned to the Operations Division patrol more than 1,000 square miles of WSSC’s Sanitary District, encompassing the vast majority of Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties.  In addition to proactive patrol duties within the WSSC Sanitary District and facility checks of more than 250 fixed facilities, WSSC Police Officers are responsible for any security or law enforcement incident occurring on WSSC property or involving WSSC employees.

Additionally, these patrol officers are responsible for the protection of approximately 6,000 acres of WSSC Watershed property (located primarily in Howard County) and for the safety of more than 100,000 visitors to WSSC’s recreational areas each year.  Recreation programs along the watershed permit visitors to engage in fishing, boating, and horseback riding, hunting and picnicking. WSSC patrol officers complete this mission by patrolling on foot, in 4x4 vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles.
