Who is a Priority Customer?
A WSSC Water ‘Priority Customer’ is a customer whose service connections are crucial to maintaining life or public health. It is our priority to ensure that we know and effectively communicate with our priority customers to safeguard public health and maintain resiliency in serving our more susceptible customers.
Under this classification, there are three categories which include:
- Critical Priority Customer – A customer that requires a continuous supply of potable water to maintain life. This includes:
- Hospitals
- Surgical centers
- Nursing homes/assisted living facilities
- Kidney dialysis centers
- Residential homes/multi-unit properties housing persons that require a continuous supply of potable water to maintain life.
- High Priority Customer – A customer that requires water to maintain the general health of the public. This includes:
- Schools and universities
- Government facilities
- Correctional facilities
- Daycare centers
- Medical/dental offices
- Fire/police stations
- Food service facilities (restaurants, convenience stores, grocery stores)
- Public pools
- Hair/tanning salons
- Pharmacies
- Largest commercial water users
- Priority Customer – A customer that requires water to maintain business operations. This includes:
- Industrial/manufacturing facilities
- Laundries
- Car washes
- Gyms/fitness centers
WSSC Water uses existing public record and customer data in addition to customer self-identification to effectively classify accounts under these tiers.
